Final Fantasy IX: Opening Hour Of Gameplay
May 31st, 2000 -
Thanks to the July issue of American gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, we are able to show you what happens
in the first hour-or-so of gameplay in Final Fantasy IX. Although this isn't really a major spoiler, those of you who like
absolutely nothing spoiled should look away now!

i - After the introduction, the game starts
up in darkness aboard the bandits' airship and theatre, the Prima Vista.
Zidane Triball then lights up a lantern on a small wooden table, and we are told of
Regent Cid's orders to send the group to Alexandria where they'll pose as performers
and kidnap the Princess Garnet.

ii -
The theatre ship (pictured left) then glides to a stop before Alexandria's Castle - the royal residence of the Princess. Note the
difference between Alexandria now and Alexandria in this
screenshot.

iii -
Everyone is then introduced to a black mage, VIVI Ornitier, who's been given a fake ticket for tonight's show onboard
the Prima Vista, so you have to guide him across Alexandria's rooftops in order to sneak in for free!

|
iv -
While VIVI's still sneaking about outside trying to gatecrash, Zidane and his fellow thieves start the show
on the theatre ship - in-front of a full-house. Soon enough, he sets off to capture the Princess.

v -
To Zidane's surprise, Garnet joins the party that set out to kidnap her willingly as she despises royal life. They all escape
from Queen Brahne on the thieves airship, pursued by a group of black mages (VIVI is not one of them, however).

|
vi -
The Queen's mages force the bandits to land in the Evil Forest, where they only just manage to escape. The group return
to Regent Cid, with the Princess Garnet, at the huge city of Lindblum.
