Final Fantasy VIII Abilities

Abilities are the mainstay of Final Fantasy VIII, pretty much in the same way Materia was for Final Fantasy VII; having the correct ability setup is not only essential to the growth of your characters and Guardian Forces, but also to success in battle.

Abilities come in six different categories, with each category having a specific purpose:



Type of Ability
Description
Character (C) When equipped, your characters will have new, or enhanced, abilities such as extra HP.
Commmand (!) Gives your equipped character the ability to use extra commands in battle battle, such as 'Draw'.
Junction (J) Enables you to junction magic with the equipped character's statistics to improve them.
Guardian Forces (GF) Improves your Guardian Force statistics, such as their HP.
Menu (M) Allows you to 'manufacture' tools and magic with certain items.
Party (P) Gives your entire party special benefits, such as 'Encounter Nothing' where you don't fight on the World Map.
