Zidane follows a strange girl who resembles him greatly...

...yet as long as he follows her and tries to talk to her, she continues to run away.

The Ghost Ship (known as the Invincible) which aided in the destruction of Alexandria and Madain Sari raises into the skies of Terra.

Zidane meets the girl at her village known as Bran Bal, and learns the truth about the Old Man, Garland, who is basically the Lord and Master of Terra. Not only that, but Zidane learns his birthplace is actually Terra!

With many questions to ask and only one person being able to give him answers, the Girl leads Zidane to the entrance of Garland's dwelling: Pandemonium.

Eiko arrives some time later, demanding to know where Zidane went.

|
Zidane, upon entering Pandemonium. "Haunted Mansion" is an understatement, really.

Garland explains his plan to restore Terra: namely, it involves the destruction of Gaia!

Garland explains the creation and purpose of the Genomes (the residents of Bran Bal), and explains Zidane's purpose in the grand scheme of things!

*Gasp* Not only is Kuja in Terra, but we learn that he is a Genome as well (virtually a brother of Zidane!), and he takes control of the Invincible!

Zidane, screwed up by some sort of brain-washing effect implemented by Garland, limps away from Eiko.
